Brighid Sammon

2018 Susan and Isaac Wakil John Monash Scholar

Brighid is Chief of Staff to the office of the Hon. Sonya Killkeny MP - Minister for Planning and Minister for Suburbs in the Victorian Government. Through this work, her teaching and volunteering with the Planning Institute Brighid works towards equitable management of land, with specific regard to public value and housing affordability.

As the 2018 Susan and Isaac Wakil Foundation John Monash Scholar Brighid completed a MSc of Urban Management and Development at Erasmus University, Rotterdam with distinction in 2019, specialising in Urban Land Governance focusing on the financialisation of housing.

Brighid is passionate about inclusive and equitable cities. Through her volunteering, advocacy and promotion of the planning profession she hopes to shed light on the need for diversity in decision making and how this could reframe the way we see and shape our cities. Through her work for not-for-profit organisations, universities, local government and the private sector Brighid is developing an approach to her work that she hopes will see more cross-collaboration between different built environment disciplines.

GG / Foundation Patron represents Australia at Armistice Centenary in France

In Paris on Sunday 11 November, 72 world leaders including US President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia, General Sir Peter Cosgrove gathered at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Arc de Triomphe. Leaders walked together down the Champs-Elysee, arriving a few minutes after the official 11am centenary time.
